Safari Club International joined leaders from around the conservation and hunting community at the White House as U.S. President Donald Trump included hunting in his remarks about America’s Environmental Leadership.
“And all across the nation, our policies are ensuring that extreme agendas do not stand in the way of responsible use of public lands,” said President Trump. “We’re getting Washington bureaucrats off of their backs, and we want to make sure that they go out and help our hunters, and our fishers, and farmers, and everyone.”
“It is heartening to see that President Trump is taking action that will allow hunters and hunting to enhance the effective stewardship of wildlife and wild places throughout the country,” said SCI President Steve Skold. “Hunters are true conservationists. We applaud President Trump for his leadership in the proper use of the country’s natural resources.”
Joined by Senators Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Steve Daines (R-MT) and John Barrasso (R-WY), Congressman Bruce Westerman (R-AR) and members of his cabinet, including Secretary of Interior David Bernhardt, President Trump spoke at length about advancing America’s economic growth while simultaneously protecting America’s precious natural resources.
Secretary Bernhardt provided an update on the administration’s implementation of the recently passed public lands package, highlighted the role of sportsmen and women in the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, and stressed the importance of strengthening the relationship between state and federal agencies.
“The reality is that America leads the world in wilderness and wildlife conservation efforts,” said Secretary of Interior David Bernhardt. “And under President Trump’s commonsense leadership, every day at Interior we are increasing access to our public lands, increasing recreational opportunities on those public lands, and enhancing our conservation efforts.”
Last month, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service under this administrations’ leadership announced plans to open or expand an additional 1.4 million acres in several national wildlife refuges and fish hatcheries for new hunting, fishing, and recreational activities.
