Hamisi Kigwangalla, Tanzania Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, called for more transparency Sunday when he revoked permits that had been issued to hunting companies.
“Acting on authority bestowed on me, I am officially revoking all permits given to tourist hunting companies this year,” he was quoted as saying Sunday in an article published by News Ghana. “Issuing the hunting permits through auction makes the exercise more transparent.”
He called for a new system for issuing permits through auction to be implemented in 60 days.
At this time, it is unclear if and how these decisions might affect hunters and hunting concessions in Tanzania.
SCI is monitoring the situation and will update as details become available.
