UPDATE: SAA Heathrow Firearms Problem Resolved

Jul 13, 2017

SCI has just received confirmation from the Professional Hunters’ Association of South Africa (PHASA) that, effective immediately, South African Airways (SAA) has ended its prohibition on the carriage of firearms in checked baggage on flights departing from and arriving at London Heathrow Airport.

This reverses the situation, announced by SCI on July 10, 2017, that alerted members that SAA would not be able to allow hunters and recreational shooters to check their firearms on flights to and from Heathrow Airport.   SAA encountered this temporary problem due to its need to comply with administrative requirements imposed by the airport.   Working with United Kingdom Police, SAA resolved the problem swiftly.

Though the issue is resolved, SCI will remain vigilant in monitoring situations involving the transportation of firearms and wildlife that impact hunters worldwide.  For additional information, please contact PHASA directly at phasa@phasa.co.za.
